If you’re turning 65, your Initial Enrollment Period lasts 7 months (3 months before your birthday month through 3 months after). If you’re not automatically enrolled, you apply through Social Security, then choose how you’ll receive coverage (Original Medicare or a Medicare Advantage plan).
